Low sales occur more than you’d think
The Wii U and 3DS eShops (the latter in particular) are a great source of original games. While disc-based titles are often thrown by the wayside by third-parties on the Wii U, there’s a ton of exclusive content on there that’s worth picking up. Unfortunately, it seems as if the indie scene is starting to suffer a bit, much like it did on WiiWare.
According to an anonymous developer, which was vetted by our friends at Nintendo Life, “most” indie devs aren’t even hitting targets of 3,000 units sold. Evidently this is an even bigger problem in Germany, as the USK rating cost is so high that they are unable to earn back the money spent getting it — this also happens in Australia, to a degree.
We’ve reached out to a few indie developers to see if they’ve encountered similar experiences, and will update if we hear more.
