Cue the cries of ‘caving to SJWs’
Great news everyone,Assassin’s Creed Syndicatewill feature the series’ first transgender character! Ned Wynert is a trans male NPC who will provide quests to either of the playable characters.
This announcement comes just over a year after Ubisoft was in hot water for not including playable female characters in the multiplayer Assassin’s Creed: Unitybecause “the animations would cost too much.”
On top of that, Ubisoft has changed the opening statement about the team that developed the game, adding a bit more diversity flavoring:
“Inspired by historical events and characters, this work of fiction was designed, developed, and produced by a multicultural team of various beliefs, sexual orientations and gender identities.”
Syndicate‘s creative director Marc-Alexis Côté said “Inclusiveness is something that’s super important for us as a team,” and added that Ned was an accurate depiction of “the Victorian era.” Eurogamer noted that the game takes place just two years before the Boulton and Park trial.
Good on Ubisoft for pulling a 180 after last year’s uproar. I hope to see many more diverse characters in the future of the series (hopefully playable next time).
