Between Me and the Night is like a weird dream

Prototype footage of upcoming indie game Between Me and the Night came of as merely interesting at first, but the more I watched, the more uneasy I became. It’s hard to put my finger on what makes it seem so weird, but I will say that it feels similar to how you might feel when waking up from a strange dream.

Joao Ortega, art director on Between Me and the Night, says that this game tells the story of a kid trapped in a floating house where logic doesn’t work as usual. Daylight is for solving puzzles to learn clues about real life, while night has him pulled into a scary closet where he’s up against his greatest fears.

You’ll see some of the feeling of Ortega and his partner working for a sleepless week on this prototype. The game’s ambience reflects exhaustion and nicotine overdose, for example.

Between Me and the Night started as a student project for Joao Ortega and Karlos Garcia. They want to get this dream off the ground, so they’re looking into crowdfunding right now. In the meantime, check out this prototype footage and see if it’s something you can get behind.

Me? I like it. It’s got that messed up vibe I dig.
