Bungie announces brand new 'annual pass' scheme for Destiny 2, which contains three premium DLC drops

Different than the past system

Directly following the announcement of the upcoming major Forsakenexpansion, Bungie dropped some big news in their reveal stream — the “season pass” concept is getting a complete overhaul.

Rather than do the whole “one big expansion, one to two small DLCs” cadence, Bungie has shifted to three pre-planned content drops to supplement Year 2. Once Forsakenarrives in September, there will be three more premium updates on the horizon — Black Armory in winter 2018, Joker’s Wild in spring 2019, and Penumbra in summer 2019. In other words, the game is basically still alive through mid 2019 at the very least.

These DLCs will include “endgame challenges, new pinnacle activities, new weapons/armor/vanity rewards, new triumph records, returning and previous exotics, and new lore.” Bungie promises that smaller free updates will still exist (though so far almost all of them have been geared toward microtransactions so I don’t have high hopes), and they also provided a brand new roadmap that you can view in the gallery below. The gist is that everything good is coming in September.

It all looks good! Given that 90% of my friends have left the game I’m excited for a portion of them to come back in September. I also hope that Bungie doesn’t reveal Destiny 3anytime soon, and keeps adding in previousDestiny 1features to the point where Destiny 2feels complete. A few more years of these updates and the game will be in a good place, but it’s probably safe to put money on the chance that Bungie will just retract most of its progress with a rushed-to-marketDestiny 3.
