Switch port still a speck on the horizon

After months of waiting, Western Dragon Quest fans finally have a day to mark on their calendar apps. Square Enix announced this morning that the best-selling RPG,Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age,will arrive on PS4 and Steam in North America and Europe on September 4, having originally released in Japan last summer for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS.

If you’re holding out for the 3DS version to maybe make an appearance in an upcoming Nintendo Direct, don’t. According to a statement issued to IGN, Square Enix said its plan is to useDragon Quest XIto grow the brand in the west, and it thinks the best way to do that is to focus on the PlayStation 4 and PC platforms.

Given how well Monster Hunter World has been received after leaving the 3DS behind, I can’t say I blame them. I also can’t say I agree with the decision, given that the 3DS has been on an upswing in sales as of late, but what the hell, it ain’t my business.

As for the Nintendo Switch version of Dragon Quest XI, it will be released in North America and Europe when it’s complete. There is still no time-table on when that will happen though.
