That’s a lot of maidenless heroes

FromSoftware’s fantasy epic Elden Ring has wasted absolutely no time whatsoever in becoming one of the biggest releases in modern memory — Already a smash hit on consoles in both physical and digital format, it seems that the PC edition of the challenging adventure title is also poised to break records with its concurrent players.

As reported by Eurogamer, Elden Ring hit a peak of 953,426 concurrent players on Steam, with 945,000 venturing into The Lands Between within the last 24 hours. This incredible number places the new release as the sixth “Most Played” title in Steam history, just behind Cyberpunk 2077, CS:GO, Lost Ark, and PUBG: Battlegrounds — all of which have, at one point or another, surpassed the one million player mark. Of course, the night is young, and Elden Ring could still smash its peak count in the near future.

Launched on PlayStation, PC, and Xbox platforms on February 25, Elden Ring has immediately seen success from a sales, marketing, and reviews standpoint. Having bagged numerous high ratings from gaming outlets, already staking its claim to Game of the Year 2022, FromSoft’s latest is practically unavoidable online, dominating social media feeds with screenshots, clips, and testimonies of battles fought… and often lost.

Newly released figures show that Sony racer Gran Turismo 7 has successfully overtaken Elden Ring in the UK Charts, knocking the latter off of the top spot. Regardless, digital sales of the release have clearly been staggering, and we are already, undeniably, looking at one of the best-reviewed, best-selling, and most played video games of 2022.
