I didn't know how much I needed a 'Dreamake' of Final Fantasy VII

Air Buster is back, in Dreams form!

It’s tough to keep up with everything happening in Media Molecule’s Dreams, and admittedly, I’ve fallen off the creation game in recent weeks. All it takes is one standout project to pull me back in, though. This one a so-called Final Fantasy VII Dreamake created by sosetsuken5360 is just so darn fun.

No, really, it is! I thought the project looked cute if noticeably wonky around the edges at first glance, but after playing it, any criticisms I had started slipping away. You can swap between Cloud, Tifa, and Barret as you go to town on the old Air Buster, as demonstrated in this footage from Twitter user Figburn. The drawn-out animations for Omnislash and Finishing Touch are wonderfully over-the-top.

If you have access to the Dreams Creator Early Access it’s still available for $30, and if you buy in now, you’ll get the eventual final version at no extra cost then I’d try out this smile-inducing take on Final Fantasy VII the next time you surf the Dreamiverse. As much as I enjoy seeing everyone’s original creations in Dreams, I’m a sucker for a good tribute, especially with FFVII Remake looming.

I’m crossing my fingers that this is only the start of something bigger. The creator describes the current build as a “demo,” so hopefully they’ll be able to apply these fundamentals to a fuller experience.
