Don Mattrick gets replaced

Microsoft has today confirmed that Julie Larson-Green will be replacing Don Mattrick, overseeing the entirety of the company’s hardware development and supply. She’ll be heading up all entertainment, including games, music, and video.

Larson-Green will be working alongsideTerry Myerson, who leads the Operating Systems Engineering Group. He’ll be leading OS work for hardware, including of course the Xbox One.

It’s hoped that the appointment of Larson-Green will help change some of Microsoft’s corporate culture, which has been publicly slammed in the past for overt displays of machismo and “gamers as bros” attitudes. In any case, with an industry so dominated by male executives, it’ll be cool to see someone who, well, isn’t that.

It’s reported that close runners-up for the position were Pennywise the Dancing Clown, Skavian Skelethrex of the Screamweaver Clan, and Harold Shipman’s Ghost.
