Less Pain on the wallet
Update 9/1: GMG finally has the game in store. Deals added below.
In less than a week, Konami’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One for the usual $59.99. PC gamers are getting a little price pampering at a handful of retailers, with discounts up to 25% off.

- Microsoft Store (XOne/360) is $59.99/$49.99 + $10 gift code
For you PC gamers, your best bet is with digital retailers abroad, namely 2game and DLGamer. Funstock had a deal at around ~$44 for NA customers, but that deal has since gone kaput. UK/EU gamers should probably look to Funstock Digital or GamesPlanet. (NA gamers should do currency conversion on the Phantom Pain price to empathize with European gamers.)
Need an incentive to buy MGSV on console? Discounts aren’t available (duh), but Best Buy is throwing in a bonus $10 Rewards credit to “My Best Buy” Rewards members. If you’re a paid GamersClub Unlocked member, you’ll also get a 20% discount if you pre-order through Best Buy.
Microsoft is doing its usual $10 Xbox gift code as a pre-order bonus, so if you prefer that or have MSFT store credit build up, this is a good choice too. (There’s no guaranteed release day delivery, though, so if you want Day 1 gaming, skip out on this deal.)
All pre-orders from legitimate retailers will net the Day One Edition, which comes with these in-game bonuses:
- Adam-ska Special Handgun
- Personal Ballistic Shield (Silver)
- Cardboard Box (Wetland)
- Fatigues (Blue Urban Snake Costume)
- Metal Gear Online XP Boost
Pre-ordering on Steam Store will get you a free copy of Ground Zero, but honestly, it’s a $5 game, so you’re not missing out on much by going third party for the Steam key.
