Spyro the Dragon also on fire
Well, I certainly didn’t see this coming. After last week’s big shakeup in the UK Charts – which saw impressive debuts from numerous new releases – already big changes have shaken up the scoreboard.
2K Games’ NBA 2K20 has slam-dunked straight into the number one spot, pushing the excellent Astral Chain off of its perch and out of the Top Ten entirely, with the PlatinumGames release now resting at number 11. Also on fire is PlayStation hero Spyro the Dragon, whose Reignited Trilogy has made a huge re-entry at number two, following on from its recent release on PC and Nintendo Switch.
Bandai Namco’s creepy adventure Man of Medan retains third place from last week, although Remedy’s Control has slipped hard, falling after just one week and landing at number 14. The remastered Catherine: Full Body also showed up in the Top Ten, launching at number 9, which isn’t bad for a last-gen re-release of an esoteric puzzle title.
Overall, however, it’s glum news. NBA games, while undoubtedly popular, are not renown for their huge UK success in recent years, and certainly not over brand new adventure titles – such as Control and Astral Chain. Indeed, with Reignited Trilogy’s return to the top, even a port of a retro re-release found enough momentum to beat out the physical sales of some fantastic new titles on only their second week of release. The demise of the high street continues.
