Mario Karate Arcade GP VR (that’s a mouthful) will be making its way to Bandai Namco’s VR ZONE,when it opens in Shinjuku this Friday, July 14.
If the name isn’t obvious, this is Mario Kart’s jump into virtual reality. It runs on an HTC Vive and a Mario Kart Arcade racing rig. You can toss shells, bananapeels, and even get smacked with that dreaded blue shell, all in virtual reality.
In the video, you can see some noticeablechanges to the Mario Kart formula. Including items hanging from balloons, rather than being in blocks, and new items like the hammer. It’s also worth noting that VR Thwomp looks terrifying.
Unfortunatelyfor those of us outside of Japan, it looks like this won’t be availableas a homeproduct anytime soon. We can dream though. If you find yourself in the Shinjuku area, be sure to check it out.
