Get to know the people that make great videogames

Last Sunday on Sup Holmes (now on iTunes) we were graced with the presence of Dick Hogg, artist and designer on Frobisher Says and the upcoming PS3, PS Vita, and PS4 titleHohokum. Dick’s an accomplished gallery and commercial artist, having contributed design to short films like Measuring the Universeand music videos like The Shouty Track. He brings a sensibility to gaming that’s far from the norm but is very easy to take to.

Everything about Dick’s path to game development seems too good to be true. He was in a band with Ricky Haggett, who also happens to make games with Honeyslug. Ricky invited Dick into the development process, and the ideas that they’ve had for their games are clearly born from a close friendship. We talked about that process, feeling more welcome among game developers than fine artists, his desire for a version ofThe Last of Us without enemies, working with Sony, almost working with Conan O’Brien, playing Rhythm Tengoku, loving Keita Takahashi, and a lot more.

Thanks again to Dick for hanging out with us and putting up with my multiple lapses in memory and judgement. Join us this Sunday at 1pm PST/4pm EST when we welcome Merrit Kopas, creator of Lim, HUGPUNX, Medusa Medusa, and Forrest Ambassador to the program. It’s going to be fantastic.
