Little did we know that the full title was Fallout 76 gigs
We’re nary a few days away from the release of Fallout 76 and the launch build of Bethesda’s newest Fallout game is going to come with a 54 GB patch for PlayStation 4 as reported by PlayStation Universe. Couple on top of this a base install size of 45 GB and you’ll need to clear out plenty of space on your hard drive to make room for the install. Say bye-bye to all those pictures of Spider-Man.
Those of you who played the beta should only have to deal with the patch, so while it’s not as painful, the fact that it is bigger than the actual game is a bit ridiculous. This all comes on the heels of a 30 GB patch that was released before the final two days of the beta. So, if you played through all of the beta sessions, you’re looking at a total bandwidth usage of around 130 GB over a period of a little over two weeks.
Thankfully, I have the luxury of choice when it comes to my ISP. Because of that, I chose one that doesn’t limit my bandwidth (read: not Comcast). Unfortunately, some ISPs will start to throttle your speed if you use a lot of data or even charge you extra if you go over a certain limit (read: Comcast). At a certain point, you gotta feel for the people who want to play these games and have no choice but to use crappy ISPs because they are the only ones available in their area.
No word on how big the day-one patch will be for the other platforms but I can only imagine they will be hefty as well.
