Sega's retail sales struggle, while digital market grows

While Sega saw a continued decline in software sales this past fiscal year, its mobile division is continuing to grow, according to a recent report issued by Sega Sammy Holdings Inc.

Even with titles like Sonic Lost World and Football Manager 2014,only6.3 million units of product were sold at retail worldwide for the Japanese developer. Europe was responsible for roughly half of all units, at 3 million, while North American contributed 2.2 million and Japan 900,000.

On the digital side of things, Sega continued to see success with its PC RPG Phantasy Star Online 2, as well as with a few of its mobile titles.Puyopuyo!! QuestandChain Chroniclecombined for 8 million downloads since December of 2013.

As a result of this, Sega has seen an increase in net sales of 19.7% and an operating income increase of 436.7%,over the previous year.
