Five Nights creator Scott Cawthon claims there “will NOT be a Five Nights at Freddy’s 5.” That’s hard to believe, but one thing is for certain: those horrific animatronics aren’t going away.

In a post today, Cawthon announced his next project, Five Nights at Freddy’s World, a role-playing game for PC, iOS, and Android. Players will “create a party using the huge selection of characters from the FNaF games, including the classic, withered, toy, phantom, and nightmare versions.”

It’s not the first time he’s worked in the genre. Cawthon’s past works include The Pilgrim’s Progress, 8-Bit RPG Creator, and The Desolate Hope, an unconventional game with RPG-style battles.

The plan was to have a demo for Five Nights at Freddy’s World ready in time for Halloween, but given the game’s “significantly larger” scope relative to prior series installments, that probably won’t happen. It’s “unlikely.” Knowing Cawthon, he’ll somehow get it done anyway.

I am now taking bets on how many Five Nights games will be out by the time the film hits theaters.
