‘A huge wooden horse! Maybe they aren’t so bad after all!’

It may be a bit of a foregone conclusion at this point, but publisher Sega and developer Creative Assembly have finally lifted the curtain on the next release in the Total War Saga strategy sub-series series. And, as previously revealed, we’re off to Ancient Greece.

A Total War Saga: Troy will see the series transport its intense, historical action to the Bronze Age, an era typified by its brutal and bloody Trojan warfare, as well as its legendary “Gods and Monsters” mythology. Ancient Greece as a setting has been a bonanza for narrative fiction, having been explored in classic literature such as Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, fantasy films such as Clash of the Titans, and video games such as Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey.

“Experience the events surrounding the era-defining Trojan War, brought to life as never before,” reads the Steam page. “Realize your legend as one of eight iconic heroes. Dive into a character-led narrative drama and overcome your antagonists. Build your empire through strategy, statecraft, diplomacy and all-out war, as you conquer this vast and striking recreation of the Bronze Age Mediterranean.”

The Trojan War is the story of the conflict between Troy and the Greeks that exploded after Paris of Troy abducted Helen – wife of Spartan King Menelaus – and took her for his own. This led to a decade-long siege on the City of Troy, ending after a ruse involving the “gift” of a giant wooden horse, which would ultimately lead to the Trojans’ downfall.
