Goggins’ character will reportedly be based on the ghouls of Fallout

Amazon Prime’s Fallout TV series has cast a lead role. Walton Goggins will be playing a lead in the streaming service’s adaptation of the video game series.

Official details are scarce on who Goggins will be playing. Amazon’s Fallout series still seems to take place in the general setting of the game series, where people try to survive in an America ravaged by nuclear war.

According to Variety, Goggins’ character will be based on the ghouls of Fallout. Ghouls, if you’re unfamiliar, are humans who have been morphed and mutated by radiation exposure. These ghouls are also immune to radiation, and un-ghouled humans tend to look down upon them as well.

Goggins is currently appearing in HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones, and has had notable roles in series like Justified, The Shield, and Sons of Anarchy. Aside from his TV work, Goggins also played some great roles in Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight and Django Unchained.

The Fallout series is set to go into production this year. Westworld co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are on the project, with the former directing the season premiere. Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner are showrunners for the Amazon series.

Video game adaptations are pretty darn popular these days. It seems like we’re seeing more and more get greenlit and spin up production, and they’re running the gamut from big Hollywood blockbusters to prestige streaming service series. Goggins is a pretty good lead-off choice for this cast, especially in a potentially ghoulish role. We’ll see what else Amazon has in store for the world of Fallout as they announce more castings.
