Jim Guthrie, George & Jonathan, C418, and Kasson Crooker are the ‘more’

Harmonix’s Amplitude Kickstarter campaign is four days away from ending, and it is only about halfway to its $775,000 goal. Some of the trepidation that potential backers have expressed has been regarding the soundtrack. Rather than popular licensed music (as with the original Amplitude‘s inclusion of Garbage, Weezer, and Blink-182), this updated title would focus on less expensive music, composed and arranged specifically for the game.

Fans of game music who have been on the fence might now have the reason to take the plunge. In a backer update this morning, Harmonix announced several of the artists to be included on the soundtrack. Officially signing on for the project are Anamanaguchi (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), C418 (Minecraft), Danny Baranowsky (Super Meat Boy), Freezepop (just about every Harmonix game), Jim Guthrie (Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP), Kasson Crooker (FreQuency), and George & Jonathan (wacky electronic music on the Internet).

The list is pretty impressive for those who follow game music. It might even be enough to push some current backers up to the $70 tier, which is the lowest rung that includes soundtrack MP3s as part of the rewards. Harmonix, if you’re reading: sign up Ben Prunty (FTL: Faster Than Light),bignic (Zombies),Lifeformed (Dustforce), Module (Shatter), Ronald Jenkees (Sequence), and/or Souleye (VVVVVV)in the next four days and you will sell me on bumping up my pledge to get that soundtrack. Too much wishful thinking on my part?
