You’re also getting half the Bayonetta

Bayonetta 2, a Wii U exclusive and our Game of the Year in 2014, does a lot of things very well. Its combat is free-flowing and challenging; its characters are wacky and memorable. This is a well-rounded game that’s held in high regard for good reason.

The one thing Bayonetta 2struggled with was getting off of store shelves. It’s estimated that the game never cleared the one million lifetime sales mark, and moved slightly more than 500,000 units in North America. Nintendo of America has a ploy to give those numbers a shot in the arm.

Leading to Bayonetta getting added to the roster of Super Smash Bros., Nintendo’s offering a standalone version of Bayonetta 2for half the normal going rate. On February 19, Nintendo’s dropping the suggested retail price of Bayonetta 2from $60 to $30, and the move seems to be permanent. Upon the game’s original launch, the original Bayonettawas automatically packaged in, but that’s no longer part of the deal.

This is significant not only because of the pedigree of Bayonetta 2, but because Nintendo games don’t really go on sale. It’s a chance for Nintendo to recoup some of those lost sales, for players to save a decent chunk of cash, and, most importantly, for a wider audience to experience another wonderful Platinum title. Win-win-win.
