Gearbox franchise back with a bang

In a week that saw the release of two of the year’s biggest shooters, Gearbox’ chaotic sequel Borderlands 3 successfully landed at the top of the UK Charts. Not only that, but (as reported by GamesIndustry.biz) the off-world adventure is now the highest-selling physical release of 2019, beating out Sony’s Days Gone, which held the record since March.

Following Borderlands 3 is Microsoft’s newest entry in the legendary Gears of War series, although Gears 5’s physical numbers are hampered somewhat by factors such as platform exclusivity and Xbox Game Pass. In third place is Konami’s EFootball PES 2020, which was practically guaranteed a good launch as the first major soccer release of the year.

Elsewhere in the charts, kudos to Focus Home’s expeditious Greedfall, which managed to climb into the Top Five during a major launch week, despite being a mid-tier release from a marketing standpoint. Nintendo and Marvelous’s Daemon x Machina debuted at number 19, while Take 2’s perennial mainstay Grand Theft Auto V snuck back into the Top Ten at number 8.
