Producer Takeshi Miyazoe says they have learnt from Dark Souls problems

Given that Dark Souls was only ported onto the PC after a vociferous campaign by fans, it was no surprise to me that the PC version felt lacking. Although many problems were fixed by the modding community, Dark Souls II producerTakeshi Miyazoe has said that From Software has learned from their initial foray into the PC market and has told Edge that Dark Souls IIwill be“a good PC experience for PC gamers.”

“The current plan is [to allow] players to choose whether they want to use keyboard and mouse or a controller,” Miyazoe explains. “Both options will be available.” Dark Souls was clearly designed with a controller in mind and considering most PC gamers I know have an Xbox 360 controller as standard, that isn’t a drawback. Still it’s good to have options.

The original Dark Souls port was hampered by low-res graphics and a lack of graphics and control options most PC games have. Miyazoe explains that their lack of familiarity of the PC market and the rush to get the port released hampered their ability to polish up Dark Souls on the PC. It’s understandable for a Japanese developer but it’s still good to see Dark Souls II will be on an equal footing with the console versions. Hopefully the level of challenge will still be as high as ever, as our expectations certainly are.
