Better late than never

Everyone assumed the Xbox One X patch for Darksiders II: Deathinitive Editionwas dead in the water. The update, which would get the game running at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second on Xbox One X, was supposed to roll out by the end of November 2018. It didn’t, and THQ Nordic went completely silent about whether it was even being worked on anymore. We reported on it, but THQ Nordic wouldn’t cooperate by offering any insight.

Well, with no prior warning or assurances it was still in development, THQ Nordic finally released Darksiders II‘s Xbox One X patch. It’s almost six months late, but better late than never. The update adds native 4K resolution support and fixes the glitched “BFA” achievement. “BFA” is the achievement for earning all the other achievements, essentially like a platinum trophy on PlayStation; however, it has been bugged for everyone ever since the remaster first launched, meaning no one in the world had attained it.

However, perhaps the most important aspect of the Xbox One X patch is that it fixes some performance issues that plagued the Xbox version. Early reports indicate that these technical problems are largely ironed out, bringing the Darksiders IIre-release to a more acceptable state more than three years after it first released. A remaster that was once more-or-less dead on arrival (at least on Xbox) has been given new life. It just took a really long time.
