Don’t call it a Minecraft clone. Or do, I’m not a cop

You can purchase Cube World, the voxel-based action-RPG, here, now that the game is in alpha [Note: the page has been alternatively available and unavailable all day due to server maintenance]. For the unitiatied, Cube World is an endless, procedurally generated game inspired by the likes of The Legend of Zelda — it seems particularly Wind Waker-esque, what with the sailing and hang-gliding — Monster Hunter, World of Warcraft, and, you guessed it, Minecraft.

The development team is made up of a husband and wife, Wolfram “Wollay” von Funck and Sarah “Pixxie” von Funck. Yes, I’m jealous of their surname, too. A year and a half ago, Wollay was hired by Minecraft-developer Mojang, then turned down the job because he “valued his independence,” and we hadn’t heard too much about Cube World until a couple of months ago, but now it’s here for purchase. The alpha price will be cheaper than the beta price, which will be cheaper than the retail price, so get in early.

Cube World‘s website has an extensive description and feature list if the above trailer didn’t sell you on its colors and whimsy. The game has eight playable races (male or female), various degrees of customization, monster taming, multiplayer, and a whole bunch more. Plus, it is almost literally infinite. You will never reach a border, so you can adventure forever, in whichever of the varying landscapes you prefer. Sounds like a blast.
