Retailer to open hundreds of mobile outlets

We told you last month that GameStop is looking to open about 400 tech stores this year in an effort to pivot their business toward the mobile and tablet side of things. That plan is still in place, but it comes with some closures, GamesIndustryreports.

In a shirt that CEP Paul Raines calls GameStop 3.0, about 130 of its existing games stores will close while 250 of their Spring Mobile smartphone and about 150 of their Cricket stores will open this year. The retailer also looking to put a couple dozen of their Simply Mac stores in areas that Apple hasn’t made it to yet.

But it’s not like GameStop is moving out of games — they’ll still have about 6,300 gaming stores worldwide after these closures.
