Opening Night Live
Once a top destination for platform-holder press conferences, the likes of Microsoft and Sony have cooled on gamescom in recent years. Cologne, Germany is no longer a place that breaking news comes out of. But, it wasn’t all that long ago that PTwas revealed to the world from a gamescom stage. Now, everyone’s mostly content to treat gamescom like the (ridiculously huge) fan convention that it is.
Geoff Keighley’s trying to bring some of that magic back to the world’s biggest convention. He’s hosting a press conference in Colognethat’s called “gamescom: Opening Night Live.” Well, at least it’s a presser by the video games industry’s loose and warped definition as “spectacle where announcements happen.” It’s taking place on Monday, August 19 at 8pm CEST/11am Pacific.
Thus far, Keighley has confirmed one superstar for Opening Night Live. Hideo Kojima will be in attendance to “present a new look at Death Stranding.” There’s a lot more. Here is a list of publishers/developers who are showing somethingat Opening Night Live:

That’s a lot of big names! Fingers crossed that Keighley can make gamescom again feel like the press conference-heavy event it used to be. It’s more exciting that way.
