The mobile gaming arms race continues
Green Throttle Games was part of the whole Android-based gaming arms race alongside Ouya, GameStick, and others. What made GTG unique was their Atlas controller, which paired with the company’s Arena software, allowed for multiple controller input on one device. So up to four players could connect to a single Android device connected to a TV and play together. They also provided an SDK developers could use to create content specifically with the Atlas in mind.
Anyway, that whole thing didn’t exactly work out and GTG quietly went under. But their technology will live on as Google has acquired their assets, and have brought on two of the three co-founders of the company, Pando reports. This acquisition fuels the Google set-top TV box rumors, possibly giving Google an advantage in the gaming department over Amazon and Apple’s set-top box plans.
