Trial version also detailed
Bandai Namco has released a number of details for Gundam Versus, including its post-launch plans as well as the upcoming trial version.
To start, Bandai Namco has stated that all free updates and downloadable content will be worked on after the development of the main game is finished. Currently, the first free update planned will be for late July. This update will unlock ranked matches, as well as implement new features for Ultimate Battles, which is a survival mode twist on the traditional arcade mode.
In addition, they have confirmed once again that more Mobile Suits will be released as paid downloadable content. All DLC Mobile Suits will have a Development Tree, which is how the game will handle unlocks, just like the included Mobile Suits. These items will include titles and emblems like many other fighting games, as well as “Strikers,” which are similar to assists from Marvel vs. Capcom, “Battle Navigators,” which function like the announcers in Persona 4 Arena, and “Pilots,” effectively alternate voice packs and cut-ins. The first confirmed DLC suit is Gundam Barbatos Lupus, the featured Gundam for the second season of Iron-Blooded Orphans, however no date and price have been announced at this time.
Finally, Bandai Namco has detailed the upcoming trial version of the game for Japan. From June 1 to July 1, every Thursday and Saturday, between 21:00 to 22:00 JST, which is 8:00 EDT, the trial will be live. This is similar to how Nintendo does the Splatoon and ARMS test-fires. During that time period, those who hop online will be able to use 51 Mobile Suits from the game as well as access various modes. That being said, since it appears to be open to anyone with a Japanese PSN account, PlayStation Plus is not required according to its store page, and it’s region free, if you’re willing to navigate Japanese menus, you could create an account and download the trial. Yours truly will definitely be trying that to see what happens.
Gundam Versus releases this Fall for North America and Europe, and July 6 for Japan and Asia on PlayStation 4.
