I believe in Star Fox

Do you, lovely casual reader of Destructoid, want to get more involved in our community but don’t know where to start? Do you go to our quickposts section thinking of getting a start in engaging the community, when you’re suddenly bombarded by an endless list of box art jpegs? Well we here in the community manager offices have got you covered! Lots of things can happen and lots of topics come and go.

Here’s what’s been going on lately in the community, so you no longer have to be ignorant of recent trends. Now you can feign ignorance of recent trends, all the while smiling within your heart of hearts knowing that yes, you’ve made your peace in telling everyone your current status is an expression of Andy from Parks and Rec. Here’s some of the best stuff of April, before May ends.

Promoted blogs

There were 12 promoted blogs, one of which was from our long running comments of the week series.

Three were from the previous prompt, initiation station. Dreamweaver wondered why there wasn’t a lot of options for really short people in custom character creation. BlazeWii talked about her online persona in contrast to previous online handles she’s held. And then there’s DavidJenkins and Phantasy Star Online.

Two were from the then-current prompt, we are VR. Gamemaniac went over the unique challenges to widespread VR acceptance while Torchman brought to light how there’s very little mecha ideas to glomp onto VR. There was one more from a prompt from February, waifu wars. Shadelight lists his favorites, yes, plural favorites along with the varying female characters we all love: midriffs.

Other promotions to remember include Jake’s NX rumor making tutorial, Blondebass exploring Square Enix’s inconsistent game designs and themes, Dr. Amphibian with Dark Souls and addiction, Jinx and the defense of the chainmail bikini, and Scrustle with his sliding scale of racing game design.

Notable quickposting trends

One of the big ones was the release of Star Fox Zero and its massively divided reception. Community members in general praised it on qtoid. But press and critics were about as excited as room temperature water. An enormous sticking point was Polygon’s non-review of the game, which to paraphrase, didn’t offer it a final score due to personal difficulty with the gyroscope controls. Qtoid in general says the game has a learning curve but its gyroscopic controls were a good charm point. I mean, you’d be surprised at the divide between conventional controls and gyroscope controls in Splatoon but everyone loves that game.

When Dark Souls III released, everyone was practically playing the damn game. Not only were people actually playing the game, but all the sharing of it on Qtoid let everyone else live the game vicariously through them.

For a hot minute, everyone relished in the majesty of cat girls. There were accusations of Furtoid and at least one person probably stopped registering halfway through. To balance things out, there was also a quick trend in cartoon crushes. As you can see, yours truly chose Nami from One Piece.

New members of April

Something I always thought was interesting in other shows I’ve watched and listened to was a new member spotlight. While my access to information and records that granular is limited, here are a few of the new members who registered in April: Julc3, Madoka Malika, and Skimpywoods.

Forums report

They still exist; they still play werewolf.

Discord nonsense

Blaze adopted everyone as official Discord mom, pretending to separate a legitimate relationship in the process. The server was in agreement that the adoption was legally binding and that Julc3’s opinion on the matter was null. Satan was declared a waifu and there were at least more than three instances in which dick mutilation was either a punchline or conversation starter. Here are a few real cuts from the chat courtesy of Yoseph.

And that’s it! April was a whole month ago! Can you believe it? Here’s to hoping for the best out of remembering May!
