Developer says he’s “more human than previous incarnations”

Konami has released this new video featuring Dave Cox and MercurySteam’s Enric Alvarez as they expound upon the development of Dracula’s character in the forthcoming Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. They also go a bit into what their favorite incarnations of Dracula and vampirism are in film, which I suppose is decent enough of letting people know where you’re coming from.

Dracula’s pretty fascinating in the Castlevania mythos. He’s always at the center of events, and yet he retains a healthy level of mystery because his appearances are so brief and so limited. Arguably the most important character in the entire franchise and there’s relatively little known about his history as compared to the Belmonts. Trying to flesh out such a character has to be both thrilling and terrifying, rife with opportunities to deepen a ubiquitous character and risks of alienating the entrenched audience.

I like what I hear from this vid. It is very easy for me to identify with the idea of an immortal whose primary goal is to cease existence, as that’s the only way I could see myself going in a similar circumstance.
