This is…something. Non-English rap has always rung weird to me. It’s like that hit Italian song that’s meant to sound like hit American music, but the singer is just stringing together nonsense sounds. There’s something uncanny about it. It can be good, though. I saw a Korean woman whose rapping could be described as both “fire” and “lit.”
This Miitomo ad, with a sung chorus and a backing Japanese shamisen… I think I need more time to process. I also need to figure out how to make the screeching “Miitomo” at 1:50 into my ringtone.
