Konami backs Nevada law allowance for 'skill-based' gambling

Gambling, man

United States state Nevada’s newly passed, plainly named Senate Bill 9 “allows for variable-payback percentages in slot machines.” What that means is that previous games of chance can be augmented with, for example, bonus rounds that yield more cash based on player skill. Basically, actual video game based gambling rather than lightly skinned Angry Birds machines that operate exactly like the Lord of the Rings slots next to it.

The Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers “is especially proud to be the initiator and one of the driving forces behind the milestone event,” according to AGEM President and Chief Compliance Officer of Konami Gaming, Thomas Jingoli. The organization hopes, “to enhance the player experience by bringing true skill-based gaming, arcade-game elements, hybrid games and other unique features and technologies to the casino floor for the first time.”

Konami has a gambling division and is shifting its focus away from console games to mobile games. It is not alone.

Maybe this will please folks who think video games shouldn’t be anything more than mechanics-driven quarter gobblers. A true return to arcade roots!
