Play at your own risk

While it may be a good idea for Nintendo to let people buy their games through Steam, it may be an even better idea for them to start running their own Twitch streams allowing for communal play on their classic games. Twitch Plays Pokemon has risen to be one of the biggest Live Streams on the internet, and inspired its own bizarre lore and reams of fan art. It looks as though the trend will continue with Twitch Plays Zelda, which is currently available for your viewing and playing pleasure(?).

So far, the game seems to be similar to Twitch Plays Pokemon in its first days — no Democracy Vs. Anarchy Bar, and a lot of sad failures. The big differences seem to be that the game has been hacked to make Link invincible, and players are prevented from spamming the start button.

The channel is run by Zach Gerlock, who is not yet internet famous. It will be interesting to see if his channel will take off the way Twitch Plays Pokemon did. So far it’s a lot less monotonous and frustrating to watch, but I’m not sure that fans of this sort of channel will see that as a good thing or a bad thing.
