Plants vs. Zombies 2 delayed, but you can play it sooner

Just make an Australian or New Zealand iTunes account

Those blasted Australians and New Zealanders are at it again, getting all sorts of special attention and treatment. We reported that Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time would be delayed beyond its July 18 release date target. According to Kotaku, there are “at least four weeks” before its still iOS only release, but the game will be having a soft launch in Australia and New Zealand.

“On Tuesday or Wednesday (of this week) we’ll be rolling it out in Australia and New Zeland so we can begin testing it for a few weeks before rolling it out globally,” producer Allen Murray told Kotaku. “We want to have at least a four-week testing period, so that we can get the game out there, check how our systems are functioning, check how people are using it, and be able to make one or two patches to adjust if needed — and then check to make sure everything’s stable before rolling it out.”

iOS owners can go through the process of making an Australian or New Zealand iTunes account — or perhaps you already have one because you live there — and join in the pre-official launch, tweaked out frenzy. I won’t; not out of laziness, but out of a lack of an iOS device. Here’s hoping Plants vs. Zombies 2 eventually comes to Vita, where I enjoyed the heck out of it (also for free, incidentally).

Despite the iOS only launch, the intent is for the game to come to multiple platforms. Hamza dug it when he played at E3, so I guess the only worry is how the free to play model affects the end product; that is, am I going to get microtransactioned to death? Pay to win? Let’s hope not.
