Good lord, finally

I’ve been starting to wonder if Yakuza 5 would actually be releasing in 2015, as Sega and Sony promised at last year’s PlayStation Experience and have scarcely mentioned since, but it seems the long wait is nearly over. According to Sega, Yakuza 5 is targeting a mid-November launch.

“Unfortunately, it’s a little later than we would’ve liked, and a few weird development bugs that popped up in localization caused the delay,” a Sega representative wrote via the company’s blog today. “Without getting too technical, there were just certain parts that didn’t like switching the Japanese text out for English, and we had to actually search through the source code to find a fix, taking more time than we expected. But! Everything is more or less back on track. Once we have details beyond just ‘mid-November,’ we’ll make sure to share them!”

Yakuza 5 was released in Japan back in December 2012. Since then, Sega has published a prequel set in the 1980s, another that takes place during the late Edo period, and announced a new game, Yakuza 6, starring famous entertainerBeat Takeshi and a remake of the first entry in the series.

Rest assured, Sega’s localization team will have no shortage of work when this project wraps.
