Now on PS4 this week

Let’s take a little trip down memory lane, shall we? Back in 2002, WayForward released the original Shantaefor the Game Boy Color. It wasn’t a massive hit, but it quickly became a cult classic, and eventually lead to the release of Risky’s Revengeon DSiWare in 2010, which pretty much made Shantaea household name. Since then WayForward has released Pirate’s Curseand are prepping for Half-Genie Hero, but so far, Risky’s Revengeis my favorite entry to date.

It became so popular in fact that WayForward not only ported it to iOS but Steam as well, and now as of this week, the PS4. I took it for a spin and I have to say, it feels fantastic. All of the extras from the PC Director’s Cut are in, including the improved map, a tougher difficulty, and a better warp system, but being able to boot it up and play it on a console is a great perk. I was initially just going to test it out, but ended up nearly beating the game again. The Director’s Cut also has the option to sport 4:3, 4:3 with borders, 16:9, and the original resolution.

This is one of the best Metroidvanias in years, so if you stillhaven’t played it yet, the PS4 is a great option.
