Will also be set in modern times

Fire Emblem: Awakening opened to phenomenal reception both critically and commercially, and if early reviews are anything to go by, Shin Megami Tensei IV will follow suit. Naturally, this seems like the perfect opportunity to capitalize on both 3DS franchises with DLC for Awakening — but that’s not the case, as Intelligent Systems has opted to go with a brand new Wii U game in the form of Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem.

So why isn’t Nintendo taking the DLC approach? Project coordinator Hitoshi Yamagami explains to Hobby Consolas magazine that DLC should provide content for “existing fans,” and since SMT X FE is “excessively different,” it wouldn’t feel right. Considering the fact that the game has recently been confirmed with a modern-day setting, I can easily see what he means. At this point, I have no idea what to expect from Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, and that’s easily a good thing.
