Time to kick some solid metal butt

We’re a little under a fortnight away from the launch of Sonic Colors: Ultimate, which arrives on PC and consoles September 7. In order to set the stage for the rainbow-colored remaster, Sega has released the concluding chapter to its animated short Sonic the Hedgehog: Rise of the Wisps. (You can catch up with the first chapter right here).

This second and final chapter is not messing around, with Sonic, Tails, and their wayward wisp pal leaping immediately into battle against their steely nemesis, Metal Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog: Rise of the Wisps serves as an introduction of sorts to the narrative of Sonic Colors, ending with our heroes getting set to take on the upcoming adventure. Like all recent animations featuring The Blue Blur, it’s wholesome, nicely stylized, and delightfully entertaining. Roger Craig Smith has mastered the art of keeping Sonic just the right side of arrogant, without making him unlikeable. Check it out!

Sonic Colors: Ultimate is a full remaster of the original 2010 Nintendo Wii/DS release, and will see Sonic once again whizzing through a demonic theme park conceived by the evil Dr. Robotnik. Assisted by the powers and abilities of a cute race of creatures — The Wisps — our hero attempts to put paid to his arch-nemesis’ evil plans for domination via machination. Sonic Colors: Ultimate features updated visuals and animations, a fully remixed soundtrack, and an optional “Navigation Mode”, in which long-time pal Tails will guide Sonic through Robotnik’s lair, helping out with the stickier situations.

Sonic Colors: Ultimate launches on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Epic Games Store) September 7.
