In other news, the sun rose today

Speaking with The Financial Times, Sony Corporation CEO Kenichiro Yoshida has all but confirmed what we were all taking for granted: that a new PlayStation console to succeed to PS4 is in development for future release.

In fact, Yoshida went as far as to call another PlayStation console an integral part of Sony future momentum. “At this point, what I can say is it’s necessary to have a next-generation hardware,” stated Yoshida in the brief statement.

This is the first time that a high-ranking Sony official has essential confirmed the upcoming release of a post-PS4 console. But, let’s face it, we’ve all been on this ride long enough to know that the constant upgrading of console technology is simply part of the game.

It’s hard to imply what is meant by deeming the successor “necessary”, but it’s likely nothing more than an inevitable realization that technology moves on, now faster than ever, and the video game industry must keep adapting its home technology to keep with the times.

Here’s looking forward to the next PlayStation console and its launch game… I dunno… Cyberpunk 2077?
