Splatoon 2's amazing Salmon Run mode gets one last map

I’m coming out of retirement for Grizzco

Salmon Run doesn’t get enough love. I genuinely believe it’s the best part of Splatoon 2, and I’d pay good money for a deeper spin-off game with local co-op support. The wave-based survival mode isn’t the main attraction for most players who just want to engage in friendly competition, but I adore it.

With tomorrow evening’s Splatoon 2 content update, maybe more of you will feel compelled to harvest fish eggs. Nintendo is adding the Ruins of Ark Polaris, the “final new stage” planned for Salmon Run.

Lore-obsessed fans should have fun with this one. There’s half-submerged wreckage of a space shuttle in the background and a few “travel with caution” bear warning signs written in plain English.

The update isn’t just for Salmon Run fans, either. Assorted weapons from the Kensa line (including the pesky Torpedo sub) are also arriving tomorrow along with the ridiculous Ultra Stamp.

It’s honestly been way too long since I last checked in with the squid kids. I subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online for the ability to play Splatoon 2 and eventually Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and I haven’t hopped online even once since the service rolled out in mid-September. That changes tomorrow.
