‘After all we’ve been through. Everything that I’ve done. It can’t be for nothing.’

It isn’t everyday that a Western game tops charts in Japan, but that’s exactly what The Last of Us has done. Oh sure, it isn’t unheard of either, and Naughty Dog’s latest effort is certainly deserving of any accolades that come its way; but that doesn’t make the achievement any less notable.

The Last of Us sold nearly 117,500 copies in Japan during its opening week, according to the latest numbers from the analysts at Media Create. The black-swan event breaks up a string of victories for Nintendo 3DS software, which has by and large reigned supreme atop charts for the last year on the backs of titles such as: Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Tomodachi Collection: New Life, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon,Shin Megami Tensei IV, and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D.
