The official Mega Man movie is not dead as of this week according to Capcom

I want proof of life

I’m not sure I want to see a Mega Man film by producer Masi Oka after witnessing what happened to the Death Note Netflix live-action adaptation. Capcom probably isn’t sure of it either, as they’ve waffled over the idea of a Mega Manmovie for the past several years, putting it on their schedule and taking it off at will. This week it’s back on. For now.

According to Capcom’s latest financial report, the Mega Manmovie still exists, though some intern may have added it in error (I jest, but I can totally see that happening from someone who still assumes it exists). The full statement is here and contains a few other nuggets of up-to-date info: “the Company has been producing world-leading content, with brands such as Street Fighter and Resident Evil being made into Hollywood movies, now followed by Monster Hunter and Mega Man, which are also scheduled for live-action film adaptation.” It’s cute that Capcom sees the Street Fighterfilm as “world-leading content,” unless it’s talking about the anime.

The short of it? I want proof of life and want to know who is still attached. It feels like we hear about the Unchartedmovie every other week to the point where Sony is officially announcing gafferchanges (I was just…looking at the lights), but this Mega Manproject may only exist to supplant that one shareholder that just loves Mega Man.
