The Steam Winter Sale just started, thousands of games discounted

But do you really need any?

You, statistically speaking, are probably a person with a backlog of PC games so overwhelming that you’ll never be caught up. Steam, fiscally speaking, is a service with a vested interest in selling you more PC games that, again, you’ll probably never complete.

The siren song grows louder today as Steam just kicked off its annual winter sale. Thousands of games are discounted through January 4, 2016. The format doesn’t appear to be laid out exactly how it has in the past. Rather than clearly defined daily deals, there are some “highlighted” ones (many on entire franchises) and a long-scrolling list of additional discounts.

Some of those highlights right now are Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain($40.19), Telltale’s Game of Thrones($10.19), and The Witcher 3($29.99). Of course, that’s just the tip of the iceberg; the rest of the games can be viewed here.

The Steam storefront is going through its usual wonky post-launch paces, so all of that’s subject to change — if it does, it’ll likely get cheaper. And, the cheaper it gets, the more tempted you get. Statistics always win.
