I had an appointment with Microsoft about Gears today, but it ended up being mostly about Gears of War Ultimate, the remake of the original game.
I did get one piece of news about Gears 4: the woman’s name is Kait. We already knew about the other character, JD — we at Destructoid are guessing it’s short for Jordan Devore.
The Coalition’s Rod Fergusson also noted that it is indeed called, in full, Gears of War 4. This is despite it being written all over promotional things as Gears 4, despite that everyone will call it Gears 4, and despite that Gears 4 is a way better name.
Also also, the indication given off by the trailer, that Gears 4 would focus more on horror, is correct. Fergusson referred to Gears 2 and 3‘s enemies as “like Nazis,” as in they became a very familiar, video game-ish adversary, and noted that Gears 4 would make “a return to unknown,” which sounds good to me.
