Microsoft and Nintendo are going

[Update: The official Gamescom Twitter account provided another updateas of March 16, noting that the convention will still go ahead as planned, but officials are monitoring the situation. Right now a Cologne city decree has banned major events up through April 10, but with Gamescom taking place in August, it is not currently impacted. Unless of course, the situation worsens, and the ban and extended.]

With so many other events on hold, “looking into situations,” or outright canceled, it would stand to reason that Gamescom would provide a similar statement: not so. According to the official Gamescom Twitter account as of just yesterday, the event is still happening and will actually be quite massive.

There is no air of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in any of their messaging, as the account has simply shared its initial exhibitors from the rooftops. The big ones are Microsoft and Nintendo, who will be attending without Sony (so far). Other major publishers like EA, Ubisoft and Sega will also be there alongside of hardware manufacturers like Corsair and Samsung. It’s going to be a big one!

Gamescom is kicking off on the far-away date of August 25, so it’s further out than some of the other delayed events: things could change. But for now it could stand to be one of the first major shows of the year, especially if E3 ends up getting canceled.
