A breakdown of who’s working on what

Yesterday’s discovery of Valve’s trademark of Half-Life 3 in Europe didn’t do much for me. This latest story, however, is an entirely different matter. The company’s JIRA database for project management was publicly accessible for long enough that people could notice. And notice they did — the database has groups for Half-Life 3, Left 4 Dead 3, and Source 2, to name a few.

For Half-Life 3, it appears as if development is ramping up. Names like Erik Wolpaw (Portal writer), Kelly Bailey (Half-Life series composer), Marc Laidlaw (Half-Life writer), and Steve Bond (Half-Life designer) are associated with the game. I still sense that it’ll be a long, long time before we hear anything concrete about the project from Valve’s side.

As for Left 4 Dead 3, the team includes Chet Faliszek (Left 4 Dead series writer), Jess Cliffe (co-creator of Counter-Strike; also listed for Half-Life 3), Clint Hocking (creative director of Splinter Cell and Far Cry 2), and Doug Church (of System Shock and Thief fame).

It’s hard not to get excited looking at some of these names — and the ones listed here are only a fraction of the full leak. Shame patience was never one of my strong suits.
