Uses Zen Studios’ Pinball FX

Imagine a pinball machine with no moving parts other than buttons for flippers. Imagine being able to load up any of your favorite tables from memory to play instantly. VP Cabs custom pinball machine lets you do exactly that. We had a chance to check one at at San Diego Comic-Con today, and now I have to have one.

This custom cabinet uses the Steam version of Zen Studios’ Pinball FX2 to give users a realistic pinball experience in a system that needs no maintenance ever. Inside you’ll find a high-end CPU and graphics hardware, letting it display sharp graphics on its table and backboard displays. $5,000 buys you the finest in virtual pinball. Add a couple thousand more to get full force feedback features.

That’s a lot of money, sure, but you’re getting access to countless tables that will never bust on you. And if a software problem does arise, troubleshooting can be done via wifi. You’re set forever with the preloaded Pinball FX, too.

It doesn’t hurt that this thing is classy as hell. If you’re anything like me you’ll find yourself figuring out where you’ll put this in your house after trying it out.

Aside from looking great (the playfield is displayed in 1080p), the VP Cab feels fantastic. From button to virtual flipper, the action translates perfectly — it feels completely natural. I could have spent the rest of the afternoon playing. It’s that good.

If you are at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, visit Microsoft’s Xbox Lounge to check out this virtual pinball experience.
