I still call dibs on Batgirl

The Arkhamverse may be leaving Gotham behind for its next game, but there is still much to look forward to in DC’s most interesting metropolis. At DC FanDome 2021, a new story trailer dropped for Gotham Knights, the upcoming action RPG being developed by WB Games Montréal. At last year’s FanDome, we got a look at how this game will differ from the Arkham games of the past. At this year’s show, the trailer focused on the reveal of the Court of Owls, an ancient organization that has secretly controlled Gotham City for ages.

Most Batman games focus on villains that have been around since the ’80s or before, so it’s really great to see games embracing the Bat’s more recent history, like with The Batman Who Smiles coming to Fortnite. If you don’t read the comics, you might not know who the Court of Owls are or why they’re such a big deal. Following the reveal of the trailer above, FanDome viewers got a glimpse at some of the behind-the-scenes work that’s gone into translating the threat the Court poses from comics to games.

Gotham Knights was originally pegged for a 2021 release date, but earlier this year, it got pushed back to 2022. Unfortunately, that’s still the only release date we have for it. So just make sure you’re ready for your day in the Court of Owls sometime next year.
