Zombies maraud through multiplayer in Call of Duty's Attack of the Undead event

They’re coming for you, Sgt. Barbara

Out of the blue (or out of the ground) Activision and Sledgehammer Games have launched a ghoulish new event in their hugely successful military shooter Call of Duty: WWII.

The Attack of the Undead sees zombies invading several multiplayer maps. Now, players must not only combat each other, but also fend off hordes of the undead, woken from their eternal slumber by the warfare above ground. I’ve heard of Deathmatch, but this is ridiculous! adjusts tie.

To fight off the maggot-ridden masses, a mighty seven new weapons have been added to the game. These include Stinger light machine gun, the PTRS-41 sniper rifle and two new melee weapons, a short fire axe and a sword. Perfect for separating limbs from bodies, on either side of this mortal coil.

Three new modes are also being made available at staggered intervals, Infected (May 29), Hordepoint (June 5) and Relic of the Dead (June 12). If all that wasn’t enough, a new map, Groetsen House, has been adapted from Zombies to become playable in standard multiplayer. That’s a lot of neat content.

It’s also worth noting that, despite inserting zombies directly into WWII settings, there are, as of this writing, no calls to boycott the game, or hashtag movements, on the grounds that Attack of the Undead is unrealistic, or offends the memory of those who died fighting in the war. It would appear that zombies in WWII are all good, but women with prosthetic arms, not so much.

Call of Duty: WWII is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
